Drugs are different. Heroin, cocaine, cannabis, tranquilizers, caffeine, alcohol - a variety of psychoactive substances and all of them providing different effects to the brain and to your mind.
But what, actually, is the problem with drugs (besides the fact that they are illicit)? Are they really dangerous? Or is this just a story, told by blinkered people and old men, fearful to experience something really surprisingly?

Well, of course, people are fearful. But maybe this is from eye-witnessing, not from hearsay. Death toll statistics support it. But, of course, do not take one drug for the other. Drugs are differently potent and differently dangerous:
Heroin, for example, imitates a substance the brain produces itself (endorphine) and causes no damage whatsoever to body and brain. And it provides exactly the same effect as endorphines. But there is, of course, the fact, that it lasts much longer than endorphines do. The effect of endorphines persists only for a few seconds. Heroin lasts for about two hours. That leads to the sole, although most important problem, that it suspends breathing - just as endorphines do - for a much longer period of time. And nobody can hold his or her breath for two hours. And secondly it causes addiction - and that is a vicious circle.
Cocaine on the contrary wreaks damage to brain and body. It works as a vasoconstrictor. During every trip small blood vessels occlude and the attached cellular tissue dies. That happens without recognition to the consumer for quite a while. But someday he or she will...
Then we have Cannabis. Despite the fact that over 70% of drug related actions by police and court deal with cannabis, it is the least potent drug. Even tobacco has a greater impact on health problems than cannabis. But is it harmless? Unfortunately not. It induces hallucinations and psychotic episodes and can activate latent psychosis. And there is, of course, the so called "amotivational syndrome", observed by young users, who lack interest in school, friends, sex ...
Drugs are consciously or unconsciously chosen along personal needs. Young people sometimes seek excitement or happiness, people in tough jobs need effectiveness and some want to forget. Drugs provide these effects immediately. No time lost in waiting, no struggle to achieve the effect, no compromise.
